Climate Change Pub Quiz goes down a storm!
Last Saturday, 23rd February, the Royal Hill in Edgerley hosted the Climate Change Pub Quiz. The staff of the Royal Hill were very helpful and had even allocated the pool room for us to run the quiz in. There were six teams in the quiz. From MEA we had Richard Hammerton as the quizmaster and Toby Morgan to wear the sparkly outfit and show the prizes on offer.
The four round quiz kicked off with a round of questions about climate change and weird weather, followed by a round where the entrants were given a list of ten British seaside towns and asked to say which five of the towns would be underwater in the event of a ten metre sea level rise. Several players cheered when they learned that Llandudno was one of the towns which would be flooded.
Next was the music round, perhaps the most popular round in the quiz, with ten clips of well known songs which feature some kind of weather or climate change related phenomena in the title, and the quiz ended with a ‘picture and quote' round where the players were given a sheet with ten pictures and ten quotes, and had to name the famous faces and then guess which quote was from which person.
The scores were close throughout the quiz, and at the end there were two teams in joint first place, so it went to the tie-break question. Both teams got the tie-break question wrong, so a second tie-break question was needed; and this time we had a winning team, who won the prize money. There were also prizes for the team who got the highest score in the music round, and a prize for the team who came last; they got low energy lightbulbs as they clearly needed all the help they could get in becoming more aware of climate and carbon issues.
Overall the quiz was a great success and enjoyed by all involved.
