Do nothing to combat climate change

E-day was intended to be a country-wide effort by the population to
switch off all of the unnecessary appliances in their homes; the aim was to
create a substantial reduction in energy use which would be registered by the
National Grid as a kind of huge monitoring system.

On the day it didn't go quite as planned; instead of the anticipated
reduction energy use was actually slightly higher than usual. Various
explanations were put forward; a cold snap saw more people running electric
heaters, and the publicity for E-day wasn't as successful as it might have
been.

Carbon Forum Workshop at Knutton Village Farm Conference

On Friday March 14th two members of MEA's Carbon Forum team travelled north to the Knutton Village Farm Conference at Newcastle Community High School in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The purpose of the event was to raise the profile of the Knutton Village Farm project, and Carbon Forum were there to run a workshop on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies.

The workshop started with a short presentation introducing the technologies and looking at energy saving measures, before the participating delegates were divided into two groups for the workshop sessions.

Flying

I went to a variety event tonight. A fourteen year old girl got up on stage with her guitar and sang the flying song (check out the video) to 200 people. She was nervous, had a crackly voice and fluffed a few chords. She brought the house down.

What are you waiting for?

Green Drinks Gets off to a Flying Start

On Wednesday 5th March we launched Shropshire's first Green Drinks session at the Armoury pub in Shrewsbury.

As the first of its kind for a Shropshire-wide audience, the event was a brilliant success and drew quite a crowd of people from across the county. The group of over 25 people had come from all kinds of environmental organisations, ranging from wildlife conservation, to renewable energy installers, business recycling services and ethical financial advisories to name but a few.

Excellent work often gets done over a pint of beer or glass of wine - Tim Smitt from the Eden Project calls it ‘Wine Light'. Now Shropshire environmentalists can take part too on the first Wednesday of every month, starting in March.

Economise in all fuels - even to the point of inconvenience.

This was the message from the government in 1947, after the snowiest winter on record and a february when only 6 days of sun was recorded at all. Can you imagine our present government issuing such a command? What will it take?

Climate Wars - The Climate Strikes Back

In a bid to cut carbon emissions, nature took its course over the weekend dropping trees on powerlines in the Czech republic. A million people were left without power.

January was the warmest on record....
